Never Give Up

I have and am reading so many books since I began my journey of Personal Development that sometimes I feel overloaded with information and I really have only just begun!  One is not expected to absorb everything at once, nor believe everything wholeheartedly.  Whatever books you do read, if one stands out and clicks with you, read it again, don’t let it gather dust.

Tony Robbins states in one of tapes that you may think he is crazy and not believe everything he says.  But he goes on to say, take what you like, expand on it and throw away the rest!  Obviously anyone who listens to him or anyone who has made Personal Development their purpose in life, has already made the decision in their mind that they want to change for the better.

One point in all the books I have read is that you should never give up.  It is so much harder to start over and over again.  It is like getting a train to start or the shuttle to lift into space.  The energy required at the beginning to get the momentum is the toughest but once started, it is far easier to continue.

Quoting Robin Sharma, who I highly recommend, from his book The Greatness Guide: “It’s amazing how far you will get by just staying with something long enough.  Most people give up too early.  Their fears are bigger than their faith.”

So when you start your journey of Personal Development, Never Give Up.  The road may seem long and difficult at times but the rewards are worth it. You will face many obstacles and possible disappointments but remember it is harder to start over again, to start that engine again.

Importance of a Daily Journal

When I first started my own journey of Personal Development, I found daily writing a huge chore and I really did not know or understand the importance.  Now I take the time each day to write in my journal.

I remember growing up, I had a “Diary” which I used to keep in a safe place and I would pour my heart out on paper about my feelings of everything that was happening in my life. I have no idea why I stopped.  Years later when I was introduced to Personal Development, I started again.

Personal journaling helps you understand yourself.  You may think “I don’t need to do that, I know who I am.”  But do you really? Do you know why you get upset, get angry, get depressed. Do you really know what makes you happy, puts a smile on your face?  Writing your thoughts on paper using a PEN not a keyboard will help you discover your inner thoughts and a new outlook on life.  It will assist you on your journey of Personal Development and positive thinking.

When you open your old journals and read what you wrote, you may wonder to yourself how you could have possibly thought that way.  I am amazed at some of the things I wrote. Remembering what made me laugh and smile and how I could let such little things bother me .

You Get What You Focus On

Personal Development takes one down many paths and here is just one – and I am really just scratching the surface.

You get what you focus on. Now that may seem a very simple statement and it really is.

Can you remember when you had in your mind the person that you just met and decided that, yeah, I really want to get to know that person, have a relationship. He/she seems perfect and you can think of nothing else. Now since your focus is on such a strong desire, you get more desire, more longing. If this person does not feel the same way, this could be a problem. You start thinking that you are not good enough and that your attention is not being returned. You then get what you are focusing on – unreturned attention and more feeling of inadequacy. You are in a vicious circle.

What can you do to change the situation? Instead of focusing on your need and desire of that person, concentrate on their incoming attention and respect for you, because really that is what you want. Your outgoing image will now change. Instead of that lovesick image, you will show desirability and you become more confident and an equal partner.

YOU GET WHAT YOU FOCUS ON, SO DO BE CAREFUL

So start right now and begin to focus on your goal. Concentrate, centre it and repeat it. Say it out loud. Write it down. Refer to it during your day. Remind yourself. It is all in your own journey of Personal Development.

Perhaps you would like to know how I became involved? I would love to talk with you and introduce you to what I believe is the next wave. CLICK HERE and I’ll see you soon!

Meaning of Personal Development

You may have asked as I have been asked – what is the meaning of Personal Development?
Of course one cannot find a meaning by looking in a dictionary. So let’s take each word separately.

Personal: of, pertaining to, or coming as from a particular person; individual

Development: the act or process of developing; growth; progress

In essence Personal Development would mean using knowledge for growth however you may choose to obtain and making it part of your life. Sounds very simple. You must of course make that first decision to seek knowledge and then take action to make it part of your life.

Personal Development is also the discovery of oneself through the understanding of the choices you have made in the past and the choices you will make for the future.

Money: Is it Really the Root of All Evil?

Which quote do you agree with?

  • “Money alone sets the world in motion.” Publius Syrus, 42 BC
  • “Remember that time is money.” Benjamin Franklin, 1748
  • “How pleasant it is to have money!” Arthur Hugh Clough, early 19th century writer
  • “Money is the root of evil”

The last one is probably the most famous BUT it is in fact a misquote. The actual words come from Timothy 6:10: “The love of money is the root of all evil.” Those added words changes the meaning. In fact in Timothy, the rich are encouraged to use their wealth “that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute“In today’s world let’s have a look. Bill and Melinda Gates in 2004 gave $3 billion to their foundation, Oprah continues to spread her wealth to many, the Rockefellers who have been giving for decades, Ted Turner who seems to be obsessed about giving money away, Joan Kroc – www.slate.com will give you the whole list.

Of course, the average person is no slouch when it comes to giving – the average American gives a little over $400 a year to various charities, and that doesn’t count money given to religious organizations or the value of personal property they donate. Who benefits from all this philanthropy? All kinds of people and places and programs.

There are plenty of immensely wealthy people who are complete misers. The first that comes to mind is of course Scrooge from the famous Dickens’s book “The Christmas Carol” who woke just in time , but there are plenty of immensely wealthy people who are complete misers. They won’t give anyone a dime.

Which side of the fence are you on? We all have dreams on how we would like to help but most of us just don’t have the time or the money to do what we would like to do. Take Benjamin’s quote “Remember Time is Money”. You exchange the 8 or 10 hours a day you spend at work for money. The time doesn’t belong to you; it belongs to your boss. The company decided how much money your time was worth when you were hired. It may be a lot, it may be insultingly small.

What would it feel like to control both your time and your money? There is a way – let’s talk - it could be the avenue you have been looking for. What’s five minute’s of your time today? You could be, in the near future helping not only yourself but giving also. Now would that not make you feel good?
